G. Legitimisation, Legal Adoption or Legal Guardianship

Application for legitimisation is if you were born before your parents got married, you can apply to legitimize your birth so that you are considered a legitimate child.

Application for legal adoption can be made in Tonga in respect of illegitimate children (not born within a marriage). Inter-country adoptions will incur additional requirements, depending on the country of residence of the applicants.

Application for legal guardianship legal guardianship applications can be made in respect of legitimate children (born within a marriage). A guardianship order will give the guardian rights over a child, up until the child reaches the age of 18 years.
